What is an operating system ?

Software designed to control the hardware of a specific data-processing system whatever it is a personal computer a mobile device or even modern electronic devices at your home such as TVs Receiver.

The software component of a computer system that is responsible for managing and coordinating all the activities and the  resources of the computer. The operating system (OS) acts as a host for application programs that are run on the machine.  Almost all computers, including hand-held computers, desktop computers,  supercomputers, and even modern video game consoles, use an operating system  of  some type.

There are two types of operating systems either a command line interface   ( CLI )  such as DOS which is an old operating system and a ( GUI ) or a   Graphical user interface such as modern Windows OS.

Modern operating systems provide the capability of running multiple   application  programs simultaneously. This is called multitasking process.
